A Book for Knowing God’s Names, Attributes
One of those issues is knowing God. The Holy Quran is a guide that we can refer to in order to know God.
The Quran refers to some names and attributes of God is different verses.
Imam Ali (AS) says in Sermon 147 of Nahj al-Balagha: “Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth so that he may take out His people from the worship of idols towards His worship and from obeying Satan towards obeying Him and sent him with the Quran which He explained and made strong, in order that the people may know their Sustainer (Allah) since they were ignorant of Him, may acknowledge Him since they were denying Him, and accept Him since they were refusing (to believe in) Him.”
Imam Ali (AS) then highlights one of the features of the Quran, saying, “Because He, the Glorified, revealed Himself to them through His Book without their having seen Him, by means of what He showed them out of His might and made them fear His sway. How He destroyed those whom He wished to destroy through His chastisement and ruined those whom He wished to ruin through His retribution!”
Here are some of God’s attributes mentioned in the Quran:
Hakim (All-Wise)
God says in Verse 6 of Surah Al-Imran: “He is the only Lord, the Majestic, and All-wise.”
It has been said about the meaning of God’s Hikma that it refers to creating everything in the best way and knowing everything. Hakim is someone who is pure from unacceptable and vain actions that run counter to divine goals.
First and Last
According to Verse 3 of Surah Al-Hadid: “He is the First and the Last, the Clear and the Hidden. He has knowledge of all things.”
Imam Sadiq (AS) said about God being the first and the last that everything but God goes through changes in different aspects. It is only God who always remains the same. He was before everything and everyone and will remain forever.
